As soon as you know you’re moving
Choose a preferred date and a backup date. Walk through every room to make an inventory, including closets, outdoor areas and storage. Separate items to keep, donate or remove. Request a quote with the pickup and destination cities, property types and any large or fragile pieces.
Before the move takes shape
Check building or community access procedures at both ends. Ask about elevators, loading areas, parking and documentation. Review the proposed scope with your mover, including packing help and materials. Arrange utilities, address updates and access to the new property.
During the final week
Label boxes by destination room and contents. Keep a separate essentials bag with medicines, chargers, keys, documents and a change of clothes. Confirm your contact number, access arrangements and any inventory changes with the crew. Make a plan for pets and young children.
The day before
Keep walkways clear. Set aside anything that should not go on the truck. Check the forecast and protect your personal essentials from rain. Follow appliance manufacturers’ preparation guidance and arrange qualified help for any disconnection work.
On moving day
Walk through the inventory and point out fragile items. Keep the access route clear and stay reachable. Before departure, check closets, cabinets and storage spaces. At delivery, use your room labels to guide placement and complete a final walkthrough with the crew.
